Mission:

A key aspect of our society's reorganization has been finding a community-oriented goal. At the first meeting this year, the working board and advisory board members chose to look for opportunities to provide volunteer medical care to the indigent, noninsured and to the undocumented, a growing population in our community.  We recently entered into an agreement with Rev. David Garcia and San Fernando Health Centre to provide volunteer, medical care to  people who attend their clinic downtown. In addition, this program will provide medical care to undocumented immigrant workers and their families at the San Fernando Health Centre clinic through a program called “Salud Sin Fronteras” ( Health Without Borders).

The following are the basic components of the agreement:

1)                  The physician volunteers to see patients at the San Fernando Health Centre clinic as many hours per month as the physician wishes to, i.e. an afternoon a month.  There will be signup schedules for adult and children's clinics.

2)                  The physician agrees to follow up some of the patients seen at the clinic in their offices and clinics for free. This includes providing medications and basic laboratory studies as needed.

3)                  The physician agrees to accept some patients on referral from the clinic. This applies particularly to specialists. The number of referral per month or year, like everything else, is to be determined by the participating  physician.

4)                  The insurance status of the patient at the first visit, i.e., Medicaid, Medicare, will be determined at either the San Fernando Clinic, or the doctor’s office using the usual mechanisms and software. It is possible that some of these patients will become paying patients for the physician.

We believe that the most important part of the medical service that we can provide is the follow up of these patients. Dr. Rodolfo M. Urby is the medical director of the San Fernando Health Centre clinic currently, and Michelle Denyer, APRN-BC. is the clinic nurse. The work at the clinic will be coordinated through them .
